the Battle of Bunker Hill
/ðə ˌbætl əv ˌbʌŋkə ˈhɪl/
/ðə ˌbætl əv ˌbʌŋkər ˈhɪl/
- the first major battle of the American Revolution. It is named wrongly because the battle was actually fought on Breed's Hill. It was on 17 June 1775 near Boston. Although the British won, the Americans were encouraged because they fought well and killed many British soldiers until they had used all their bullets.
