  1. the second attempt by the Scottish Jacobites to defeat the English and make the Stuarts the kings of England and Scotland. This attempt, led by Bonny Prince Charlie in 1745, was successful at first. The English forces were defeated at Prestonpans and the Jacobites moved into England. They soon had to return to Scotland, however, and were finally defeated at Culloden. see also Fifteen
