- a British nursery rhyme about the Duke of York, a soldier who was the second son of George III. It is sometimes quoted when somebody cannot decide what to do. The first verse is: “Oh the Grand old Duke of YorkHe had ten thousand men,He marched them up to the top of the hillAnd he marched them down again.”
