the Lord Privy Seal

/ðə ˌlɔːrd ˌprɪvi ˈsiːl/
- the British government official who, in the past, kept the seal (= a tool for putting a design in wax on a document to show that it is official) of the king or queen. Today the Lord Privy Seal no longer has this responsibility, but attends Cabinet meetings and may also be the Leader of the House either in the House of Commons or the House of Lords.
