  1. a channel that separates the island of Anglesey from the north-west coast of Wales. The Menai Bridge, the road bridge that crosses it, was built by Thomas Telford and was then the biggest suspension bridge (= bridge hanging from cables supported by towers at each end) of its kind in the world.
