  1. a popular US television humorous cartoon series on the Fox Television Network since 1989. The characters are a family whose attitudes and language are meant to represent a typical American family. Bart Simpson is a boy of ten who hates school and has problems with his stupid father Homer and his sisters Lisa and Maggie. Lisa is very clever and often makes strong statements about the need for social and political change. In 2007 a successful film called The Simpsons Movie, based on the TV show, was released.
