- a popular US television chat show which has been running since 1954. Johnny Carson presented it for 30 years (1962-92). He was replaced by Jay Leno, who continued the tradition of telling a few jokes before talking to guests and introducing music by the show's band. The show is now presented by Jimmy Fallon.
