- an international charity, now officially called Variety the Children's Charity, that helps children. Its members are famous actors and entertainers who collect money by organizing shows and concerts. The first Variety Club was started in the US in 1927 and the charity now has branches in many countries of the world, including Britain. The branches are known as tents and supporting members are known as barkers. Britain is Tent 36.
