The Virginian

- a US television western series each week on NBC (1962-71). The Virginian is a mysterious man with no name who visits the Shiloh Ranch in Medicine Bow, Wyoming, in the 1880s. The series was based on a 1902 novel of the same name by Owen Wister, the first western novel in American literature, and there had been film versions in 1929 (with Gary Cooper) and 1946.
