  1. a British prize given every year for the best novel published in the UK that is written in English by a woman from any part of the world. The money for this large prize is provided by a group of sponsors. The prize was first given in 1996. Until 2012 it was sponsored by the former mobile phone company Orange, and called the Orange Prize for Fiction.
