  1. a military unit that traditionally guards the British king or queen at certain ceremonies. It was created in 1485 for the ceremony in which Henry VII became king. Its members still wear a red uniform in the Tudor style of that period, similar to that worn by Yeoman Warders, though the two groups are quite separate.
  2. The Yeomen of the Guard
    one of the operas by Gilbert and Sullivan. It is about a man who gets married just before he is to be executed in the Tower of London and is then told that he has been forgiven and will not be executed after all.
