Tyneside

- an area of north-east England around the River Tyne, including Newcastle-upon-Tyne, Gateshead and South Shields. Tyneside was formerly an important centre for the shipbuilding and coal-mining industries, but the area now has a lot of unemployment. People from Tyneside are informally called Geordies.
