  1. a large US company which supplies goods and services to the nuclear power industry in many countries. It was established in 1886 by George Westinghouse (1846-1914) as the Westinghouse Electric Company and was mostly responsible for the US decision to use AC (= alternating current) instead of DC (= direct current) electricity.
