  1. a song by Irving Berlin. It has become a traditional song for Christmas, when many people hope that there will be snow. The song was first written for the film Holiday Inn (1942) and won an Oscar. Bing Crosby sang it in the film and his recording has sold more than 40 million copies, the most for any recording until recent years. He was also in a second version of the film, made in 1954 with the new title White Christmas.
