- (1924-2008) a US actor famous for playing leading parts in big historical films. He was Moses in The Ten Commandments (1956) and received an Oscar for Ben-Hur (1959). He was known for his conservative views (= being opposed to much political and social change), and was President of the National Rifle Association (1998-2003).
