- Warren Gamaliel Harding (1865-1923) the 29th US President (1921-3). Some members of his government were involved in illegal activities, including the Teapot Dome scandal. Harding himself was opposed to the US becoming a member of the League of Nations. He was a member of the Republican Party and had first been elected to the US Senate (1914-20) from Ohio.
