  1. a character in the British television series Minder (1979-1994). A Londoner who sells used cars and other goods, he is always interested in making money, not necessarily in an honest way, but is usually unsuccessful. He employs a ‘ minder ‘, Terry, to protect him. Some of the expressions Arthur Daley uses have also become part of the language. For example, he sometimes describes a business deal as 'a nice little earner', meaning that it will make him a lot of money easily. He also talks about his wife (who is never seen) as '‘er indoors'.
