- (1942-94) an English film director, artist and writer who was also known as a campaigner for gay rights. His best-known films include Sebastiane (1976), the punk film Jubilee (1978), The Tempest (1979), Caravaggio (1986), The Last of England (1987), The Garden (1990), Edward II (1991), Blue (1993) and Wittgenstein (1993). He also directed pop videos and wrote several books, including Dancing Ledge (1991).
