  1. (1891-1974) a Chief Justice of the US Supreme Court (1953-69). He was a strong supporter of the civil rights movement and his court decided against segregation in public schools in the famous Brown v Board of Education case (1954). Warren led the Warren Commission, a committee formed to investigate the murder of President Kennedy. It published the Warren Report (1964) which said that Kennedy had been killed by Lee Harvey Oswald, acting alone.
