  1. a British comedy television series made in the 1970s and still regularly repeated. The programmes are set in a hotel called Fawlty Towers, where things are always going wrong. The owner, Basil Fawlty, played by John Cleese, always makes the situation worse in his wild and funny attempts to hide the problem
