/ˌɡaɪ ˈfɔːks/
- (1570-1606) one of the people involved in the Gunpowder Plot to blow up the British Houses of Parliament. He is the most famous of the conspirators (= people involved in the plan) because he was caught with the gunpowder (= explosive powder), tortured until he gave the names of the others, and later killed. There is a tradition in Britain of burning 'guys' representing him every year on Guy Fawkes Night.
