Hoover Dam

- a large dam on the Colorado River on the border of Nevada and Arizona. It was completed in 1935 and originally called Boulder Dam. In 1947 the name was changed in honour of the US President Herbert Hoover. It is 726 feet/221 metres high and 1 244 feet/379 metres wide, and it produces electricity for Arizona, Nevada and southern California.
