  1. difficulty in learning and understanding things or in managing everyday activities, which affects somebody for their whole life
    • She works in a school for children with learning disabilities.
    • You may get extra help if your child has a learning disability.
    In the UK, learning disability is most commonly used in relation to people who have general difficulty understanding information and learning skills. It has replaced older terms that are now considered offensive such as ‘mental handicap’. In the US, learning disability is most often used in relation to people who have difficulty with a particular type of learning, such as people with dyslexia. In the UK this is usually described as a learning difficulty.
