- a children's book (1886) by Frances Hodgson Burnett, about a young American boy who discovers that he is the son of a British earl. He has long fair hair and is always well dressed and polite. The name is now sometimes used to describe a young boy who is dressed in fancy clothes or who is unnaturally polite.
