  1. a famous English cricket ground in St John's Wood, north London, where test matches (= international games) are regularly played. It is named after Thomas Lord (1755-1832), who established the ground in 1814. The MCC and the England and Wales Cricket Board are both based there, and it is the place where the Ashes are kept.
