- a north-eastern US state in New England, also called the Granite State. The largest city is Manchester, and the capital city is Concord. New Hampshire was the first independent English colony (from 1776) and one of the original 13 states. It produces electrical goods, stone, clay and paper products, as well as many crops. Popular tourist attractions include the White Mountain National Forest and Lake Winnipesaukee.
