New Jersey

- a north-eastern US state on the Atlantic Ocean. Local people often call it Jersey, and it is also known as the Garden State. The largest city is Newark, and the capital city is Trenton. New Jersey was settled by the Dutch, became British in 1664, and was one of the original 13 states. It produces vegetables, chemicals, medicines and clothing. Atlantic City and Princeton University are both in New Jersey.
