the Fair Deal

- the name used by US President Harry S Truman in 1949 for his domestic (= national) programme. Congress passed much of it, which continued the New Deal programme of President Franklin D Roosevelt. The Fair Deal brought improvements in employment, education, civil rights, health services and many other areas.
