  1. a British society of gardeners, started in 1804 by Joseph Banks and others, which holds the Chelsea Flower Show each year. The Society owns various gardens around Britain, including the garden at Wisley, where research into horticulture (= growing flowers, fruit and vegetables) is carried out.
