- (1756-1827) an English artist. He is famous for his caricatures (= exaggerated humorous drawings) showing the society and politics of the time, e.g. the series The English Dance of Death (1814-16). He also painted portraits and drew illustrations for books by Tobias Smollett and Laurence Sterne.
